Young Arts or Commerce graduates may perhaps never even think of applying for a job in an electronics manufacturing company. However, few know that some entry routes into this sector exist for them too.
A woman from an Arts and Science college in Tamil Nadu was working as a junior technician at Tata Electronics, inspecting products and identifying defects.
A current recruitment listing on Uttar Pradesh’s government employment portal shows how women can explore jobs in a similar industry. On the portal, a recruitment firm advertises assembly roles at Tata Electronics in Hosur for female freshers, including BA, BSc, BCom and BBA graduates.
The package it advertises is Rs. 19,000 monthly CTC, plus an attendance bonus of Rs. 1,000, with rotating shifts and a six-day working week. The offer also lists accommodation, meals and transport. It is important to note here that CTC is not take-home salary.
Those applying for the job must get the accommodation charges, deductions and employment terms in writing. They should also verify the recruiter’s authorisation and the job offer directly with Tata Electronics before proceeding.
According to Tata Electronics, technicians are provided with hostels at a nominal cost, subsidised food and transport, including security-escorted bus drops for women.
Some electronics shop-floor roles accept non-engineering qualifications. So, before paying for an expensive course, female graduates must explore such options, where their existing qualifications could be enough to begin their careers.
