Your First Job Could Get You Up to Rs. 15,000. T&C Apply

– What is this?

A government payment under the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PM-VBRY). It is a one-time benefit, not Rs. 15,000 every month.

– Who can qualify?

People joining a PF-covered employer between August 1, 2025, and July 31, 2027. Their monthly salary before deductions must be Rs. 1 lakh or less when they joined.

– What does “first-time” mean?

You must not have contributed to PF before August 1, 2025 – including through a company’s own recognised PF trust. You will not become eligible just by changing companies. If you worked without PF earlier, it does not mean you are ruled out.

– Will everyone get Rs. 15,000?

No. The payment depends on the salary amount used to calculate your PF. Not necessarily your full salary. Rs. 15,000 is the maximum.

– When does the first payment become due?

After six qualifying months with the same employer. It can be up to Rs. 7,500, provided the employer has submitted the required PF records and contributions.

– And the second payment?

After 12 months with the same employer, submission of required PF records, and completion of EPFO’s financial-literacy course, a basic course about managing money.

– Can you spend the second payment straight away?

No. According to the rules, the amount will be held in a designated savings/deposit account. The holding period will be specified in future government guidelines.

– Do you need a separate scheme application?

No. EPFO uses the monthly records submitted by your employer. But you must have your UAN – your PF account identification number – verified using face authentication on the UMANG app, and an Aadhaar-linked bank account ready to receive government payments.

– What should you do now?

Ask HR: “Am I eligible for PM-VBRY? Are my joining details and PF payments correctly recorded?” Check the prescribed free money-management course through the official EPFO website.

– What if you leave the job?

You will not get the first instalment if you leave before six qualifying months. If you leave after six but before 12 months, you will not get the second instalment. Your months with different employers cannot simply be added together.
