After years of slogging and sleepless nights, UPSC candidates reach the interview stage. But after all that preparation, when they see the final list, their name is missing. It can be a shattering experience. But missing that list does not make government employment impossible.
In June 2026, the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) advertised 100 Assistant Section Officer posts. It subsequently shortlisted candidates for document verification for these posts. These were candidates listed on UPSC’s Pratibha Setu portal, who had taken the Civil Services Examination in 2024 but had not been recommended for appointment.
Their place in the document-verification shortlist was determined by their UPSC Mains and interview marks, after they qualified in a computer proficiency test. Notably, they had been shortlisted, not secured a job yet.
Pratibha Setu is a platform where employers search for willing candidates who reached the UPSC interview stage but missed selection. Each employer has a different set of requirements. And being listed on the portal does not guarantee an offer.
However, for aspirants, this means that even if the original ambition remains unfulfilled, all doors are not closed. Their hard-earned UPSC marks can have value even beyond the examination’s final list.
That particular recruitment drive by CSIR closed on July 13, 2026. However, eligible candidates should regularly check official UPSC and participating employers’ notices for any future opportunities.
You can continue to make more attempts if you wish. But remember that the work you have already done could also give you an opportunity.
